As the leaves start to fall, planning is underway for tennis activities surrounding the Dave Polvino Heart-Health Tournament. This year’s events are being coordinated by Rick Ballou, Pam Gilbert, David Outlaw, Debbie Polvino, and Bill Wisdom.
The Men's Tournament and Mixed Doubles Social as well as the addition this year of the Ladies' Tournament are a lot of fun and for a great cause, and this year's events promise to be better than ever.
The 6th annual Dave Polvino Heart-Health Awareness Men's Doubles Tournament Hosted by Lochmere will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 starting at 1:00 pm.
As in past years, the event will be a competitive Men's Doubles Tournament open to all Lochmere members as well as non-members who played tennis with Dave. Just like last year, the four teams with the best records (most matches won, least games lost) after three preliminary round-robin matches will advance to the winner's bracket. So a team with one loss is hypothetically capable of winning the tournament.
Since 3.0's and 3.5's have won every tournament to date, the handicap points will be slightly reduced this year to give 4.0 and 4.5 players a better opportunity to take home the Polvino cup.
The official men's tournament schedule is as follows:
- Tournament Check-in and Warm-ups -- 1:00 to 1:30 PM
- Tournament Round-Robin Play -- 1:30 to 4:15 PM
- Tournament Semifinals -- 4:30 to 5:00 PM
- Tournament Finals -- 5:00 to 5:30 PM
- Tournament Awards, Prizes, and Wrap-up -- 5:30 to 6:00 PM
