spring cleaning 2

Spring is here and it's a great time to start getting your house ready for summer!

Here are some ideas for your checklist:

  • Windows: Washing windows and screens will give you a sparkling view of spring.
  • Gutters: Cleaning out rain gutters is a fall chore for many homeowners, but checking them again in the spring will ensure that no debris has become clogged in them during spring storms and pollen season.
  • Siding: Pressure wash the siding of your home to remove grime. Be sure to start at the highest points of your home to avoid washing dirt down onto clean areas.
  • Garage: Cleaning out the garage will give you more space for summer equipment such as bikes, outdoor games, and gardening equipment. This may be a good time to hold a yard sale as well. Do not forget that Lochmere will be holding its annual yard sale on April 30. For more information about the sale, please visit HERE.
  • Mailboxes: Check your mailbox and post and make sure that they are scrubbed clean of mildew, and free of any vines that have grown up around your box and post. Make sure that your address numbers are visible for friends, mail carriers and emergency vehicles. If you decide to stain or replace your post, please check HERE for details on the approved color and replacement details.

Here are several spring-cleaning chores that can help your lawn look its best.

  • Limbs and branches: The first task is to pick up any limbs or branches and dispose of them properly. Remember that the Town of Cary will pick up yard waste, weekly. Please do not place your yard debris on the common areas or near the trails.  Yard debris can easily end up in drainage systems and our lakes, leading to very expensive dredging.
  • Raking: Gently rake your lawn to remove dead grass, perk up the dormant blades, and give your lawn a boost.
  • Aeration: Over time, your lawn can become compacted, making it difficult for water and air to reach the roots of your grass for the lushest, greenest growth. Consider an aeration service to help loosen your lawn and encourage thicker, sturdier grass.
  • Fertilizing: A spring fertilization treatment can give your grass a boost of nutrients for strong spring and summer growth. You can apply a fertilizer yourself or contact a lawn care company for an estimate.

As a friendly reminder, please make sure your yards are mowed regularly and edged. It makes such a big difference to our neighborhood when everyone keeps their yard looking great.
