As the Board of Directors and the Lakes Committee continue to investigate the best, and most cost-effective way to partially dredge Highlands Lake, it has been decided to draw down the lake level to undertake further fact finding before dredging the lake in 2026.
This draw down is scheduled to begin October 6. Our lakes management company, Foster Lake & Pond Management, will install a siphon on the concrete riser in the lake that will gradually, and safely lower the lake level. Contractors will be able to see what kind of material they will be dealing with when dredging.
The contractors will be given an RFP and requested to submit their best bids.
The lake will naturally fill back up when it rains. It is not possible to predict how long the lake level will be low.
Highlands Lake has been lowered several times previously to facilitate required dredging. Fortunately, fish and turtles will tend to migrate toward the dam where the water is deeper and will sustain them.
